Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Tokyo

Sushi-Making Class & Tokyo Skyline Visit

Meet your Adventure Leader and group at 4 PM for a briefing on your exciting two-week journey. Take part in a fun sushi-making class and enjoy your creations for dinner. End the night with stunning skyline views from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.

Day 2: Tokyo

Tsukiji Market, Sensoji Temple & Akihabara

Explore Tsukiji Outer Market and Sensoji Temple, then enjoy free time for sumo experiences, river cruises, or anime culture in Akihabara. Cap off the day with shopping, a visit to batting cages, or a relaxing bathhouse experience.

 

Day 3: Tokyo
 

Meiji Shrine, Harajuku & Shibuya Crossing

Visit the historic Meiji Shrine and vibrant Harajuku before crossing the famous Shibuya Crossing. Enjoy free time to go karting in Tokyo streets, explore digital art at teamLab Planets, or unwind at the Imperial Palace gardens.

 

Day 4: Tokyo to Fujikawaguchiko
 

Mount Fuji Views & Arakurayama Sengen Park

Take a day trip to Fujikawaguchiko and admire Mt. Fuji from Arakurayama Sengen Park and Tenku no Torii. Hike to Mother White’s Waterfall before returning to Tokyo for a final evening in the city.

 

Day 5: Tokyo to Kamakura
 

Kamakura Temple & Calligraphy Class

Travel to the chilled-out beach town of Kamakura and take part in a traditional calligraphy class at a temple. Spend your afternoon exploring iconic sites like the Great Buddha Statue or relaxing by the beach.

 

Day 6: Kamakura to Hakone
 

Lake Ashi Cruise & Hakone Ropeway

Arrive in Hakone and hike the Old Tokaido route before boarding a pirate ship across Lake Ashi. Ride the ropeway to volcanic Owakudani, soak in an onsen, and enjoy a lively sake-tasting night with your group.

 

Day 7: Hakone to Kyoto
 

Bullet Train Journey & Kyoto River Walk

Travel to Kyoto via Odawara, where you’ll have free time before hopping on the bullet train. Stroll along the Kamo River during a short orientation, then spend your afternoon exploring Kyoto’s historic temples or gardens.

 

Day 8: Kyoto
 

Fushimi Inari Shrine & Gion District Tour

Visit Higashi Hongan-ji Temple and hike the famous torii gates at Fushimi Inari Shrine. Explore Kiyomizu-dera Temple, tour the charming Gion district, and enjoy a free evening with options like Pontocho Alley or Gion Corner shows.

 

Day 9: Kyoto
 

Nara Deer Park & Todaiji Temple

Take a half-day trip to Nara, visiting Todaiji Temple and making friends with deer at Nara Park. Return to Kyoto for free time to experience a tea ceremony, visit the Bamboo Forest, or dive into Japanese pop culture at museums.

 

Day 10: Kyoto to Hiroshima
 

Kyoto Cycling Tour & Golden Pavilion Visit

Bike around Kyoto, meditate with a Buddhist monk, and visit the iconic Golden Pavilion. In the afternoon, ride the bullet train to Hiroshima, with the option to enjoy a group dinner at Okonomiyaki Village.

 

Day 11: Hiroshima
 

Hiroshima Peace Park & Miyajima Island

Explore the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome. Ferry to Miyajima Island to see the floating torii gate, hike up the ropeway for scenic views, and enjoy a relaxed evening back in Hiroshima.

 

Day 12: Hiroshima to Osaka
 

Osaka Orientation Walk & Shinsaibashi

Take an early train to Osaka, followed by a guided walk to Shinsaibashi’s bustling streets. Enjoy free time to visit Osaka Castle, museums, or shopping areas before a farewell dinner and final drinks with your group.

This tour starts in Tokyo and ends in Osaka. Throughout, all your local travel is included in the tour, excluding airport transfers. For an additional fee, you can book the train back from Osaka to Tokyo – you can add this on to your booking at checkout.

On this adventure tour, you’ll be based in hostels. All of the hostels we use are clean, comfortable, and well-located. In them, you’ll have all bedding provided for you, so no need to bring anything extra! While we get a huge range of people on this tour, we tend to see that this tour is most popular with people in their early-20s to mid-30s.
